Cut Rifle Barrel

Once the barrel has been drilled and reamed to the appropriate dimension and inspected for uniformity and finish the barrel enters the cut rifle process. A single point tool is passed end to end in the bore removing approximately .0001” of material on each pass. This creates the rifling groove. It takes 40 passes of the cutting tool to create a groove .004” deep. Any number of groves can be created, with 4 groove barrels being the norm. The barrel is then hand lapped to the required finish. Contouring is the last step and is completed in accordance with the customer’s requirements.
